Every year, SICOT offers young surgeons three-month fellowships to visit an internationally renowned orthopaedic centre. The aim is to improve knowledge and surgical skills.
The fellowships are:
Danish Travelling Fellowship: at Århus University Hospital in Denmark specialised in Spine Surgery. SICOT will cover the accommodation and travel expenses (one economy ticket only; taxis will only be reimbursed at a reasonable amount; airport shuttle bus service must be used in priority to taxis) up to EUR 2,000 (proof of expenses must be provided).
International Travelling Fellowship: The winner will plan his fellowship (arrange his travel, accommodation and make contact with the center of his choice) and will be awarded a total of EUR 2,500 to do this. This center should have a SICOT member, or the corresponding surgeon is known to, or in contact with, SICOT.
PREREQUISITES:
– Must be a SICOT member with membership dues paid two years in a row at the time of the application (the year of the application deadline and the year before)
– Must be 45 years or under at the beginning of the fellowship
– Must have five or more years of specialised orthopaedic training at the time of application
– Health insurance coverage during stay at centre
– Medical check-up before travel (including lab results for blood tests)
– Application form must be filled in
– Priority is given to candidates having attended one or more SICOT Congress(es) in the past 4 years
– Preference will be given to international fellows. SICOT will not cover the travelling costs of national fellows.
DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT VIA THE Application Form:
– Copy of birth certificate or passport
– Up-to-date CV mentioning
- the date of birth
- the logbook
- the academic achievements
- other achievements
- the professional experience in Orthopaedics (with month and year of beginning and ending)
- the field(s) of interest
– Two recommendation letters, one must be from the current Head of Department and must be not older than 6 months
– A document proving the English level
– Motivation letter containing aim of travel, specialty of interest and Fellowship being applied for (1 choice) and how this Fellowship will benefit your home country or hospital
– Recent medical check-up (including lab results for blood tests showing your vaccinations; not more than 6 months old)
– Two references with e-mail contacts
– For the International Travelling Fellowship: the acceptance letter(s) from the centre(s) and the contact person from the centre(s)
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 30 June 2026
Successful applicants are required to submit a report to SICOT upon completion of their fellowship.
